Obituary for George Robert Baker

SEARSPORT-George Robert Baker, 91, passed away at Waldo County Hospital on November 30, 2023. He was born March 31, 1932, a son of Orrin and Jennie (Maheux) Baker.
George grew up in Windsor and learned the value of hard work while growing up on the family farm. As a young man, he enlisted in the Navy, serving for three years. On June 13, 1953, he married Myrna Loy Pelton and the two lived in Windsor, raising their children. For the majority of his life, George was self-employed as a wood cutter. He also owned a chainsaw shop, selling and repairing chainsaws.
With some good ol fashioned Yankee ingenuity, George could fix just about anything! He was handy and even built a couple of houses. In his retirement years, George enjoyed going out for coffee and breakfast where locals listened to his storytelling. He also enjoyed going out dancing with Myrna. For over 50 years, George was a Mason with Dirigo Lodge of Weeks Mills.
He was predeceased by his wife, Myrna Baker; his sisters, Doris Carter, Gladys Welch and Virginia Wilcox; and his beloved dog, Rex.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Arsenault, Charles Baker and his wife, Susan, Lori Lanpher and her husband Royce, and Ethel (Effie) Anglen and her husband, Russ; his grandchildren, Nicole Laflin, Valerie Tyler, Stacia Mayou, Bethany Corson, Gladys Lanpher, Joseph Lanpher, Kimberly Lanpher, Bronya Fraser, Kayla Fraser, Sarah Anglen, and Robert Anglen; 15 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
A committal service will be held on Thursday, December 7th at 10 am at the chapel of the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
