MANCHESTER, MAINE
Steven Nelson Frank, age 66, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Manchester on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. He was born on Staten Island, NY on April 1, 1952 a son of Edward and Eloise (Robinson) Frank.
On a bright Easter Sunday morning, a 10 day-old Steven was brought to live at Wood Island Lighthouse with his parents. He stayed there until age 5 when they moved to maintain Portland Head Light so he could enter elementary school on the mainland.
Steve, an Eagle Scout, was a graduate of Hall-Dale High School, the University of Maine at Farmington where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Education, and the University of Southern Maine where he earned his Masters Degree in Education. He also earned a Ph.D in downhill skiing at the University of Sugarloaf Mountain, and several honorary certificates in carpentry and bad puns.
Steve taught at the Manchester Elementary School, was a teacher and Assistant Principal at the Winslow Junior High School, and was the Principal at Winslow Elementary School until he retired in 2010. He impacted thousands of lives throughout his career in education.
Steve will be remembered for his devotion to family, friends, and his many random acts of kindness. With the help of his brother-in-law Craig Bachand, Steve built five houses during his lifetime and completed countless building projects. He could be found skiing, hiking, boating on Cobbossee lake, or sitting by a fire with his family. His loved ones will remember him for his endless humor, passion for teaching, and for being a devoted father and husband.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Monique Bachand Frank of Manchester; his mother, Eloise Frank of Hallowell; daughter Megan Harari, and husband Homero Harari and grandson Eli Harari, of New Haven, CT; son Jeff Frank, and wife Briana Frank, of Honolulu, HI; a sister, Michele Blake, and husband Ronnie Blake, of Gardiner and his extended family.
Steve was pre-deceased by his father, Edward G. Frank.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Wednesday, October 17 from 10-11am at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a memorial service will follow at 11am.
In lieu of flowers Steve would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness in his name for someone in need.
